The Wilson Health Mobile Mammo Unit has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in mammography as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology® (ACR®). Mammography is a specific type of imaging test that uses a low-dose X-ray system to examine breasts. A mammography exam, called a mammogram, is used to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases in women.
The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting specific requirements based on ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported back to the facility and provide the hospital with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.
Wilson Health’s Mobile Mammography Unit can be driven anywhere in Shelby County or surrounding areas to provide mammography screenings or other health-related services.
“Our mobile mammography unit makes it easy and convenient for women to receive their annual screening mammograms,” said Patty Goldschmidt, Registered Radiologic Technologist certified in mammography. “Early detection of breast cancer is one of the most effective ways to save lives. By bringing our mobile unit directly into neighborhoods and workplaces, our goal is to increase screenings and help keep our entire community healthy.”
The mobile unit is equipped with 3D mammography technology just like the ones found in the Francis Women's Center at Wilson Health.
