One of the most important jobs you have as a parent is keeping your child safe when riding in a vehicle. Each year thousands of young children are killed or injured in car crashes. Proper use of car safety seats helps keep children safe. But, with so many different car safety seats on the market, it’s no wonder many parents find this overwhelming.

Wilson Memorial Hospital has been offering childbirth education classes to the public for years and can now conduct car seat checkpoints as well. Natalie Hollenbacher, registered nurse, recently became a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician through The National Child Passenger Safety Board. With this certification, Hollenbacher will hold monthly car seat checkpoints to facilitate proper instructions and car seat restraints and also evaluate car seats to determine if the seat is still safe or if a new one should be purchased.

Hollenbacher will hold the first Wilson car seat checkpoint event on Saturday, May 28, in the Wilson Memorial Hospital Family Birth Center parking lot from Noon to 3 p.m. This event is offered free of charge and no registration is necessary. Car seat checkpoint events will be held monthly, or private appointments can be arranged with Hollenbacher.
