Stephanie Dunkle-Blatter, board-certified and fellowship-trained general surgeon, has joined Drs. Robert McDevitt and David McDonald and Wilson Health Medical Group.

Dr. D-B, as she is called, is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and is credentialed as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Specializing in minimally invasive surgery and advanced endoscopy, Dr. D-B has been performing a range of general surgery procedures including bowel resections, gallbladder removal, inguinal and ventral hernia repair, treatment of hemorrhoids, placement of feeding tubes, removal of skin lesions and tumors, and appendectomy, for over 12 years. She also performs screening colonoscopies to prevent and treat colon cancer.

“I knew minimally invasive surgery was the future of surgery:  better visualization, less pain, and quicker recovery is what I provide to patients. I like being a person’s surgeon, not just their hernia specialist.”

From West Lafayette, Indiana, Dr. D-B attended college at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, on a full athletic scholarship and played Division I collegiate volleyball and studied microbiology. She then joined Teach for America and taught seventh grade in North Carolina before deciding to go to medical school. Dr. Dunkle-Blatter earned her medical degree from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky, followed  by a general surgery residency and minimally invasive surgery fellowship at UK as well.  Dr. D-B has practiced medicine in both Indiana and Ohio.

Dr. Dunkle-Blatter is committed to continued medical education. She regularly attends national conferences including the ASMBS Obesity Week and the Minimally Invasive Surgery Symposium. In 2016, she attended the coveted Surgeons as Leaders course conducted by the American College of Surgeons and participated in Mercy’s Leadership University. She enjoys public speaking and providing education on a number of surgery related topics.

“No one wants to have to have surgery,” said Dr. Dunkle-Blatter. “I feel privileged to help people feel comfortable through the process. I enjoy guiding patients through life transformations and helping resolve their pain and other concerns. I enjoy inspiring our team to provide the best care possible.  Being part of the process is amazing to witness and makes me want to do my best for all involved.”

Dr. Dunkle-Blatter has relocated to the Sidney area with her husband and young daughter.
