Bone Density Testing

Bone density tests determine the bone mass of the spine, hip or wrist to determine if you have osteoporosis or are at risk of osteoporosis. Bone density tests are simple, safe and painless. Most tests take approximately 15-20 minutes to perform.

Your results are compared with those of healthy individuals at their peak bone mass through an extensive database. This information can help your doctor diagnose osteoporosis or determine whether you need to take steps to protect your bone health.

Normal bone is dense and strong. Bone with osteoporosis has thinned and become porous, making it more likely to break. The bone density test measures the thickness or density of your bones. If you are concerned about your bone mass, contact your doctor to discuss your need for this quick and easy test. With the use of bone density forming drugs, osteoporosis can be treated.

You may have had a screening exam performed on your heel at your doctor's office or at a health fair. Please note that those units are helpful in detecting the possibility of an osteoporosis diagnosis, however it should not take the place of a diagnostic exam. The technology used at Wilson Health is more sensitive and reliable, producing more detailed and conclusive results
