Wilson Health Celebrates Grand Opening of Thomas Boecker Professional Building

On Thursday, May 19, 2016, Wilson Health hosted the grand opening and building dedication of the Thomas Boecker Professional Building, which is located on its main campus. In conjunction with the Sidney-Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, guests were offered tours of the new 48,000 square foot building. A special presentation and building dedication also took place for Thomas J. Boecker, former president and CEO.

Wilson Health Earns 'A" Grade for Patient Safety

New Hospital Safety Scores, which assign A, B, C, D and F letter grades to hospitals nationwide and provide the most complete picture of patient safety in the U.S. health care system, were announced today by The Leapfrog Group, a national patient safety watchdog. Wilson Health’s Wilson Memorial Hospital was one of 798 hospitals to receive an A, ranking among the safest hospitals in the United States. The hospital was one of only three in the Miami Valley area to receive the ‘A’ score.

Inskeep Receives Daisy Award

Wilson Health awarded the DAISY award for the first quarter of 2016 to Mandy Inskeep, RN. 

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. It shows the appreciation of all that nurses do to make a difference in the patients’ lives. Nominations can be made for nurses by patients, staff and visitors.

Physician Memorial Scholarship Applications Accepted

The medical staff of Wilson Health announces its eighth annual Physician Memorial Scholarship. Established following the death of Bruce C. Urbanc, D.O., in 2008, the Physician Memorial Scholarship is a joint effort of the Wilson Health medical staff and Wilson Health.  Applications are available by contacting the Human Resources Department, 498-5505 or the Wilson Health website, www.wilsonhealth.org, under Career Opportunities, Physician Memorial Scholarship Fund. Applications should be turned in by Friday, June 3.

Wilson Health Auxiliary Scholarship Deadline Set

The Wilson Health Auxiliary will be accepting applications for its annual scholarship through May 27, 2016.

To be eligible, a student must have already graduated from a Shelby County High School and be enrolled in a college program in the field of medicine or will be graduating this year from a Shelby County High School and be enrolling in a college program in the field of medicine. A $500 scholarship is available.

Wilson Health Welcomes New Pediatrician

Rabia Akbar, board-certified pediatrician, has joined the Wilson Health Medical Group and the medical staff of Wilson Health.

2016 Cheer Your Heart Out

February is American Heart Month and Wilson Health has an important message it would like to spread throughout the community. The hospital is committed to keeping the community heart healthy and has teamed up with 11 local high school cheerleading squads to help raise awareness of heart disease and stroke for the second annual Cheer Your Heart Out.

Wilson Health and Community Blood Center Host Blood Drive

Wilson Health and Community Blood Center are celebrating January National Blood Donor Month with a blood drive Tuesday, Jan. 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Sidney American Legion Post 217 meeting hall, 1265 North Fourth Ave.  It’s a chance to make a New Year’s resolution to help others by giving blood. Everyone who registers to donate will receive a “Make Your Resolution Stick – Give Blood” mug.  Donors should schedule an appointment online at www.DonorTime.com or call 1-800-388-GIVE.

Winner Announced for Wilson Health Weight Loss Challenge

Wilson Health Sports Medicine recently held the first annual 21 Day Lean Weight Loss Challenge. Participants included faculty from partnering sports medicine schools. For three weeks, teachers and staff at Anna, Fort Loramie, Fairlawn, Riverside, Minster, New Bremen, Lehman Catholic, Botkins, New Knoxville and Jackson Center schools, participated in the weight loss challenge with the winning school receiving a $500 donation to a local food pantry of their choice.

Wilson Health Officially Welcomes 10,000th Baby Born at Copeland-Emerson Family Birth Center

On October 23, 2015, Wilson Health delivered their 10,000th baby at the Copeland Emerson Family Birth Center. At 7:34 p.m., baby girl Eva Epigmenio, was born into the world to parents, Sierra Hutchins and Jose Epigmenio, of Sidney.

Shortly after delivery, baby Eva was transferred to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where she spent the next 8 weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
